Debra worked abroad for the U.S. Army in Italy in 2020, during Italy’s severe outbreak of Covid-19, which led to health problems.Debra was born in Altdorf, Germany to an Army military officer stationed in Germany in WWII, Ora Lee “Bud” Glenn and his wife that he met in Germany during WWII, Theresia “Resi” (Fechter) Glenn. Debra was born April 20th, 1958, in Altdorf, Germany, next to an U.S. Army military base named “Panzer Kaserne” in Boblingen, Germany. Bud was of half German and half Scottish heritage and Debra’s mother was a Sudetenland German who worked as an orphanage manager.Debra’s great grandparents and great-great grandparents (Charlie and Joseph Glenn and John Scalf) were born and raised in Greeneville, Tennessee, but they had left for California after the Civil War.Debra was raised in Barstow, California since the age of three. She graduated from Barstow High School in 1976 and graduated from Barstow Community College in 1978 with an Associates of Science degree in Engineering Physics. After working at the Marine Corp Logistics Base for five years, at age of 25, she moved to Washington DC to work as a Human Resource Director for the Department of the Army, the Department of Energy, and Pentagon, working on HR for our nuclear weapons program, including engineer and tech recruiting at the Pentagon. Debra worked abroad for extensive periods of time at Army bases in Germany (10 years) and Italy (6 years).Debra was a very active member of the National Garden Club (Desert Garden location) for over ten years, until she went overseas. She held several offices of different types, such as Club Secretary and Club Assistant Vice President. She was always devoted to the work of the Garden Club and planned to help them again after she retired in Tennessee, but her disability prevented this. She is an appreciator of music, attending more performances than most people, and the music filled her life with happiness.Debra visited her family in Johnson City and Kingsport often and loved Tennessee. She retired with disability as a GS-15 rank in Tennessee to finally be with her beloved family in January of 2021.Debra’s siblings are her only brother, named Loyd “Lee” Glenn (Living, age 71) and his wife, Brenda K. (Burgess) Glenn, who cared for Debra in her final years.Debra was never married and had no children, so she adopted her many nieces and nephews as her own: Christina Rivera-Glenn (Elaine), Stephanie Guidry (Chris), Nathaniel Glenn, Adam Glenn, Ryan Glenn (Mackenzie), and Melanie Glenn (Greg); step nieces and step nephews: Angela (Matt) and Bella Graham; Shane (Jessica), Logan, and Alex (Melanie) Pritchett; Chelsey and Bennett Kincaid (Chris); Jacob and Andrew Peters.
