Evelyn Self Lockhart

Evelyn Self Lockhart passed away Monday, March 18, 2024, in Kingsport, TN.She was born January 18,1927, in Rockford, IL and moved to Kingsport as a young child.After graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1945, she was employed by TN Eastman. Later she worked in the mortgage loan business for many years in Kingsport, TN and Dallas, TX. After retirement, she worked part-time at Southland Storage where she truly enjoyed talking with customers.Evelyn was a sweet, selfless, caring person who was loved by everyone who knew her. Above all, she loved her family.While she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, her “happy place” was fishing on her houseboat at Boone Lake.She was a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church and a former member of First Baptist Church in Kingsport.Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Adelia Matthews Self; her sister, Betty Moore; and her beloved son, Phil Lockhart.Those left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her daughter, Carolyn McCrary; grandsons, Brian McCrary and Mark McCrary; great-grandsons, Aaron and Blake McCrary; daughter-in-law, Cindy Lockhart Harold (Steve); brother, Richard Self; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2024, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Tiger Brooks officiating.The inurnment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Oak Hill Mausoleum II.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Evelyn’s memory to Indian Springs Baptist Church, 214 Hill Rd., Kingsport, TN 37664, or https://campsweeney.org a camp for children with Type 1 diabetes, or the American Cancer Society by visiting, www.cancer.orgThe family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Wexford House and Amedisys Hospice for their compassionate care of Evelyn.To share memories and condolences with the family please visit www.oakhillfh.comThe care of Evelyn Self Lockhart and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.Read Obituary
