Jeremiah 6:16Laura Conner Davis, 92, of Kingsport completed her walk in the good way and found her rest on Tuesday, February 27, 2024.Laura was born in Jacksonville, FL to John and Elizabeth Conner, but the family soon moved to Savannah, GA where she grew up.On December 6, 1952, she wed Joseph Henry Davis, Jr., the love of her life and to whom she was married for 72 years.Laura and Joe had three sons who in turn blessed them with eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.Laura was a military spouse who devoted herself to supporting her husband and raising their children during Joe’s 20-year career as a USAF pilot and his 20-year second career as an FAA Air Traffic Control Specialist.Laura took advantage of her business school training to work temporarily in accounting for Zippy Mart Corporate offices in Jacksonville, FL and for the IRS in Franklin, TN where she manned a helpline to answer taxpayers’ questions.Anyone who knew Laura also knew that her boys were her pride and joy. She devoted herself to their spiritual and mental development and was gratified to see each of them engage in successful careers.Laura made sure her boys attended church when they were growing up and while Joe was serving in the war in Vietnam, they attended every church service during the year he was away.At various Air Force bases where they were stationed, Laura hosted many members of their church family in their home.When she became homebound in later years of her life, those times of fellowship were one of the things she missed the most.Laura loved all her grandchildren dearly but was especially excited to have granddaughters for whom she could buy dresses and dolls, and who she could teach to bake cookies.She enjoyed cooking for and hosting all her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts and everyone looked forward to the fun and fellowship of those holiday gatherings.Laura was preceded in death by her two sisters, Joan Dobson, and Janice Bass; and her great-grandson, Sullivan Davis.Those left to cherish Laura’s memory are her beloved husband, Joe; her brother, John Conner; her children Joe Davis, III and wife, Lorenia, John Davis, Mike Davis and wife, Manuela; grandchildren, Amanda Ingram and husband, Robert, Clint Davis and wife, Ashley, Brooke Davis, Ben Davis and wife, Jessika, Autumn Shands and husband, Jarrett, Melissa Dearmon and husband, Chaz, Erin Davis and Jack Davis; great-grandchildren, Ryann, Cole, Griffin, Conner, Gwyn, Anna Ruth, Bond, Madison, Beau, Layla, Lynley, Beckham, and Presley; and many beloved nieces and nephews.A Committal Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home with Jay Cline, Minister of Northeast Church of Christ officiating.Entombment will be at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Oak Hill Mausoleum III.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Church of Christ, 2217 Beechnut Dr., Kingsport, TN 37660.The family would like to thank the nurses, CNA’s, PA’s and staff of Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice and The Blake at Kingsport for the wonderful care, concern, comfort, and expertise they provided to support Laura and her family.To share condolences with the family please visit www.oakhillfh.com.The care of Laura Conner Davis and her family has been entrusted to the staff of Oak Hill Funeral & Cremation Services.
